When should I use this article?

Use this article when you already know you need Modules > Engagement Thermometer > Insights Surveys.

If you still need to choose between Pulse Surveys and Insights Surveys, start with Engagement Thermometer - Overview.

The Insights Surveys menu entry is not shown to every company. If you do not see it, contact GFoundry support.

What are Insights Surveys?

Insights Surveys are surveys you build for a specific purpose in your company. Each survey has its own name, description, start and end date, groups and questions.

A survey can combine scale questions and open text questions, or use only one of the two types.

Each survey runs between the start and end dates you set. Its status is Future before the start date, Open while it runs and Closed after it ends.

One practical use is gathering feedback on new company policies. Employees can share their views on the proposed changes, and the company can use this feedback to refine the policies before they are implemented.

What can I do with an Insights Survey?

This article shows how to create Insights Surveys, use templates, add questions and export results. Question categories are covered in Engagement Thermometer - Questions Categories.

How do I create a new Insights Survey?

Go to Modules > Engagement Thermometer > Insights Surveys and click New Insights Survey. Fill in Insights Survey Name, Insights Survey Description and the Start and End dates, then click Create. In the Insights Survey Created! message, choose Start adding questions! to go to the survey's questions, or Go To Assessment List.

To choose the groups of the survey, open the survey's Settings tab after creating it and use Groups Segmentation. See Engagement Thermometer - Edit Insights Survey.

How do I use templates for Insights Surveys?

To make creation faster, click Add from template in the Insights Surveys list. In the first step you can select one or more templates, then click Next Step.

In the next step, Add Timeframe, choose the start and end dates, then click Create Template! and confirm with Yes, create!.

In the last step your surveys are created and listed in Insights Surveys Created. Click a survey to open it, or click Close and go to my Surveys. See Engagement Thermometer - Insights Survey Templates.

How do I export results and check user status?

In the Insights Surveys list, open the actions menu of the survey. You can also use the Actions panel on the survey's Survey Dashboard tab.

  • Export User Status downloads an Excel file straight away, with each user and whether they have finished the survey.

  • Export Results and Export Answers are prepared in the background, and a download link is sent to your email. Export Answers only appears when answer-level export is allowed for that survey.

How do Insights Surveys use questions and categories?

Question categories help you organise questions. Categories and their questions are shared by all Insights Surveys of your company, so you can reuse a question in several surveys.

How do I add questions to an Insights Survey?

Open the survey and select the Survey Questions tab. Then:

  • Click Add Question to create a new question. In Question Category, pick an existing category or type a new name to create one.

  • Click Add from catalogue to add a question that already exists in one of your categories.

You can only change the questions before the survey starts. See Engagement Thermometer - Insights Survey Question Catalogue.
