Communities (Tribes) and Teams
Understand the difference between Communities (Tribes), Teams, Groups and Departments, and where to manage Communities and Teams in the backoffice.
Note: Communities (Tribes) and Teams are independent features. If you do not see Communities under Community Management, the Communities feature is not active for your organisation. If you do not see Teams, the Teams feature is not active. Departments only appears when departments are also active. Ask the GFoundry team to confirm which features are active for your environment.
What is the difference between Communities, Groups, Teams and Departments?
Communities (Tribes): group users by areas of interest. Users join the Communities they want in the platform, up to the maximum set by the admin, and admins can also add members in the backoffice. Communities are created by backoffice admins.
Groups: segment content, access, features and modules for different sets of users. They are created and managed by backoffice admins.
Teams: replicate the organisational structure of the company. A user can only be in one team at a time.
Departments: sit above teams. A department can group teams, for example teams of different branches with similar structures. Each team belongs to one department only.
Communities (Tribes)
What is a Community?
A Community groups users by areas of interest. Users choose to join it in the platform, and can leave it at any time. The admin sets how many Communities each user can join in Communities Settings.
The points of the members count towards their Community in the Communities ranking.
How do Communities support social interaction?
Members of a Community can read and write comments in it to share ideas, thoughts and useful information. Users who are not members are asked to join the Community before they can see or write comments.
Do Communities appear in rankings?
Yes. Besides the individual ranking, there are rankings by Community and by Team.
How do I create, edit and configure Communities?
To create, edit, delete or reorder Communities, and to change Communities Settings (the Max number of Communities per User and the Display Order of the list), see Communities (Tribes): create, edit, reorder, and configure community settings.
To add or remove members, see Community members management and push notifications.
Teams
What is a Team?
Teams replicate the organisational structure of the company. Each user can only belong to one team at a time.
Do Teams appear in rankings?
Yes. Rankings can also be shown by Team.
How do I create and edit a Team?
To create, edit or delete a Team, add members and manage its Whitelist Rules, see Teams: create and manage team details, members, and whitelist rules. On the team details page, the Team Content tab shows the Learn Content of the team.
Departments
To create, edit or delete Departments and assign their managers, see Departments: create, edit, delete, and assign managers.
