How to complete a Touchpoint

A Touchpoint is a check-in during the year. Open it in My Career, complete each item on the list and submit your part. Your manager then completes theirs.

Before you start

  • Your company uses Touchpoints and a Touchpoint period is open for you.

  • Each answer is saved as soon as you choose an option, so you can stop and come back later.

  • Submitting a Touchpoint does not ask for confirmation. Check your answers before you click submit.

Which view do you have?

Timeline is the most recent version of My Career, but some companies do not have it yet. In Timeline you see your whole year on one page: the cycle at the top, a line with the months from January to December and a mark for today, and one card per phase, in order. Your Touchpoints are phases on that line, next to your evaluation. Each card shows its state, such as In progress, Deadline: <date>, Available on <date> or Upcoming. Click a phase to see what you still have to do in its To do list.

Your company may still use the previous view, with separate Touchpoints and Evaluation tabs; the steps below cover both.

Steps in the previous view (Touchpoints tab)

  1. Go to My Career > Touchpoints. You see the Available touchpoint periods.

  2. Open the current period. Under My touchpoint, open your Touchpoint.

  3. The Touchpoint self evaluation page lists the Touchpoint items. Under To submit your evaluation: you see what you must complete, for example Evaluate skills, Evaluate goals, Answer questions, Set goals for the next evaluation or Set IDP's for the next evaluation.

  4. Open each item and complete it.

  5. When everything is done, Submit touchpoint becomes active. Click it. The Touchpoint is submitted straight away.

Steps in Timeline

  1. Go to My Career > Timeline and click the Touchpoint phase card.

  2. In the Me tab, the To do list shows each item and how many are ready.

  3. Click each item and complete it.

  4. When everything is ready, click Submit. The Touchpoint is submitted straight away.

What a Touchpoint may include

  • Touchpoint goals: evaluate how your goals for the period are going.

  • Smart Goals: create, edit or delete your goals for the next period. New goals stay pending until your manager approves them.

  • Individual development plans: create development plans (IDPs) for the next period.

  • Touchpoint questionnaire: questions set by your company.

  • OKR goals and Collective goals: shown for information only.

  • Select user's extra skills: click Manage skills and choose extra skills, up to the maximum shown. Each click is saved at once, and you can only change them before you submit.

After you submit

  • Your Touchpoint shows Manager touchpoint pending: your manager now completes their part. You can no longer change your answers or your goals.

  • When your manager finishes, it shows Completed touchpoint.

  • If you need to change something after submitting, talk to your manager.

If you manage a team

In the same period you also see your team's Touchpoints under Choose a touchpoint to evaluate. See How to evaluate your team and delegate an evaluation.

In the mobile app

Tap Menu at the bottom of the screen and then My Career (swipe left if you do not see it). Inside it, the sections (Timeline, My Career, My Notepad) are in the bar at the bottom. The pages and the steps are the same as on the web.

If you do not see this

  • No Touchpoints tab: your company uses Timeline, where Touchpoints are phases on the line of the year, or it does not use Touchpoints.

  • Your company may use a different name for this area or place it elsewhere in the menu. Some companies also give Touchpoints their own name.

  • There are no results for this list...: no Touchpoint period is open for you.

  • In Timeline, a Touchpoint card shows Available on <date> or Upcoming: it has not opened yet.

  • The period has no Touchpoint for you: it may not have been created yet. Ask your manager.

  • The submit button is greyed out: an item is not complete, or your goals are outside the minimum and maximum set for the period.

  • There is no submit button: you have already submitted, or this Touchpoint is filled in only by your manager.

Common questions

Why don't I have a Touchpoint?

Each Touchpoint period has its own list of people, separate from your yearly evaluation, so you can be in one and not in the other. Inside a period, your Touchpoint may also not have been created yet.

  • Ask your manager first. In many companies managers can create a Touchpoint for the people in their team.

  • If your manager cannot, ask your administrator. Tell them the name of the period and what you see on the screen.

Why is the submit button greyed out?

An item is not complete yet. If you see the Touchpoints tab, look for items under To submit your evaluation: that are not ticked. If you see Timeline, check the To do list for items that are not ready. Most often the reason is your goals. Each period has its own rules, so a rule from the last period may not apply now:

  • Too few or too many goals of a type, for example individual or team goals. The goals item shows the minimum and maximum.

  • Not enough goals running at the same time. The goals item says how many you must always have at the same time during the period.

  • Goal dates outside the dates allowed for the period.

  • Goals whose due date has already passed. Some periods do not count them.

  • A justification is missing because you chose the highest or the lowest score. The message tells you the minimum length.

  • Extra skills not chosen yet, if your Touchpoint has Select user's extra skills.

Do not create extra goals only to unlock the button. If an approved goal has the wrong dates or type, ask your manager. If everything looks right and you still cannot submit, ask your administrator. Tell them the period and, for each goal, its type and dates.

Why is a goal I just created missing from my Touchpoint?

Your goals are refreshed each time you open the Touchpoint, while it is not finished. Close it and open it again. A goal does not appear if its dates are outside the period, if it was canceled, or, for a team goal, if you are not in that team. If it still does not appear, ask your manager. Do not create it again.

Why can't I add a goal for the next period?

New individual Smart Goal is greyed out when you already have the maximum number of goals, and it disappears once you submit. If a date is rejected, the message shows the earliest or latest date you can choose. See Where to see your goals for the date rules.

I submitted by mistake. Can I undo it?

Submitting a Touchpoint does not ask for confirmation, and you cannot reopen it yourself. Talk to your manager. Depending on your company, your manager or your administrator can reopen it for you.

Why does my Touchpoint show my previous manager?

A Touchpoint has its own manager, separate from your evaluation. If you changed team or manager, ask your administrator to update the manager of your Touchpoint. Tell them the period and who your manager is now.

Why can't I change my extra skills?

You can only choose extra skills before you submit, and only up to the maximum shown. After you submit, ask your manager if something needs to change.
