How to create and follow your development plan (IDPs)
Individual development plans (IDPs) are the actions you plan to grow at work. You create them in your evaluation or Touchpoint, your manager approves them, and you mark them complete when you finish.
What is an IDP?
Each IDP is one development action: What you will do and To what end. There are three types, based on the 70/20/10 model:
Individual development plan 70: learning from day-to-day experience in your job.
Individual development plan 20: learning with others, through observation, interaction and feedback.
Individual development plan 10: formal learning, such as courses, congresses, workshops, certifications or readings.
Your company decides which types you can use and the minimum and maximum number of IDPs you need. The page shows these limits.
Before you start
Your company uses IDPs, and your evaluation or Touchpoint is still open for you to edit.
Steps to create an IDP
Open your evaluation (My Career > Evaluation > the open cycle) or your Touchpoint (My Career > Touchpoints > the period > your Touchpoint). If you see Timeline, open the phase and its Me tab.
Open the Individual development plans item.
The page shows Total IDPs and the minimum and maximum for each type. Click New IDP 70, New IDP 20 or New IDP 10. A type that has reached its maximum is greyed out.
Fill in What (what you will do) and To (what you expect to achieve). Depending on your company, also fill in IDP duration and Due date. Some companies set the due date for you.
Click Create!.
Your IDP appears under Pending. It only becomes effective after your manager approves it.
Edit or delete an IDP
Click the IDP to open IDP details. While it is pending, you can use Edit IDP or Delete IDP.
Once your manager approves it, only your manager can change it.
You can only edit while your evaluation or Touchpoint is open. After you submit, the buttons disappear.
Follow and complete your IDPs
Go to My Career > My Career. Your IDPs are in My Individual development plans, with their status: Pending approval, Approved or Completed.
When you finish an action, click the IDP and then Set as complete. Confirm. Some companies also ask for the date you completed it.
You and your manager can add comments on the IDP details page.
Review your IDPs at the end of the cycle
Your next self-evaluation may include Evaluation IDP's (Review this evaluation IDP's). Open it and mark as complete the IDPs you finished. Then click Confirm next to I confirm that I have finished reviewing the IDPs.
In some companies you instead set every approved IDP as complete, Set as not complete or Set as canceled, and you can leave a comment. The checklist then shows Review the status of approved IDPs.
If you manage a team
IDPs you create for someone in your team are approved straight away. You approve the ones they create with Approve IDP. You can also open a person from My team in My Career and click Edit IDPs.
In the mobile app
Tap Menu at the bottom of the screen and then My Career (swipe left if you do not see it). Inside it, the sections (Timeline, My Career, My Notepad) are in the bar at the bottom. The pages and the steps are the same as on the web.
If you do not see this
No Individual development plans item: your company does not use IDPs in this cycle or Touchpoint.
The New IDP buttons are greyed out or missing: you reached the maximum, or your evaluation or Touchpoint is already submitted or closed.
Only one IDP type is available: your company uses only that type.
Your company may use a different name for this area or place it elsewhere in the menu.
