How to complete your self-evaluation

Open your evaluation in My Career, complete each item on the checklist and submit it to your manager. Your answers are saved as you go, and you can only submit once every required item is done.

Before you start

  • Your company has an evaluation cycle open for you.

  • Each answer is saved as soon as you choose an option, so you can stop and come back later. Text and sliders are saved when you move to another item.

  • After you submit, you cannot change your self-evaluation.

Steps if you see the Evaluation tab

  1. Go to My Career > Evaluation. You see your Evaluation cycles.

  2. Open the cycle that shows Available until <date>. If you manage a team, you first see a list: your own evaluation is at the top, under Self evaluation.

  3. Your Self-evaluation page opens. Under To submit your evaluation: you see what you must complete, for example Evaluate Smart Goals, Evaluate user skills or Make a comment on the global evaluation. The list depends on your company's evaluation model, and each item is ticked when you complete it.

  4. Open each item and answer. Use Previous goal and Next goal to move between goals. Some answers ask for a justification, sometimes with a minimum number of characters.

  5. When every item is complete, Submit self evaluation becomes active. Click it and confirm (Submit your self evaluation?).

Steps if you see the Timeline tab

  1. Go to My Career > Timeline.

  2. Click the evaluation phase card. Its state shows In progress or Deadline: <date>.

  3. In the Me tab, the To do list shows each item and how many are ready.

  4. Click each item and answer, as described above.

  5. When everything is ready, click Submit evaluation and confirm.

Other items you may find

  • Prepare cycle <year>: create your Smart Goals for the next cycle.

  • Individual development plans: create your development plans (IDPs) for the next cycle.

  • Evaluation IDP's: review which development plans from the cycle that is ending you completed.

  • Evaluation feedbacks: feedback you received during the evaluation year. If you see Ask feedback, you can request feedback for this evaluation; it is shared with your manager.

  • User mobility and User expectations: tell your company whether you are open to changing location or role. Only you fill these in, while your self-evaluation is open. Your manager can read your answers.

  • Collective goals and OKR goals: usually shown for information only, with a value that is already calculated. You cannot change them.

After you submit

  • Your evaluation goes to your manager and shows Pending Manager evaluation. You can no longer change it.

  • Your manager completes their evaluation. Depending on your company, they then share it with you.

  • If you see Confirm evaluation, click it to confirm that you are aware of the result. Some cycles ask you for a comment.

  • If you see Export Evaluation, you can download your evaluation.

Preparation cycles

If the cycle is a preparation for next year, the page is called Autopreparation of evaluation and the button is Submit preparation. You usually create goals and development plans there. Once you submit it, you cannot change it.

If you manage a team

You complete your own self-evaluation in the same way. Evaluating the people in your team is covered in How to evaluate your team and delegate an evaluation.

In the mobile app

Tap Menu at the bottom of the screen and then My Career (swipe left if you do not see it). Inside it, the sections (Timeline, My Career, My Notepad) are in the bar at the bottom. The pages and the steps are the same as on the web.

If you do not see this

  • No available evaluations yet: there is no evaluation for you in this cycle.

  • Evaluation cycle closed: the cycle has ended and can no longer be changed.

  • The submit button is greyed out: an item on the checklist is not complete yet.

  • There is no submit button: you have already submitted, or the cycle is closed.

  • In a 360 evaluation you may first have to choose your peers.

  • Your company may use a different name for this area or place it elsewhere in the menu. If the area is called Evaluation with a single Home tab, open your cycle from Home.

Common questions

Why don't I have an evaluation?

Having an account does not put you in an evaluation cycle. Each cycle includes specific groups of people, and some companies also leave out recent hires or people with long absences. If you see No available evaluations yet, or Timeline shows no evaluation phase for you, there is no evaluation for you in this cycle.

If you think you should have one, ask your administrator. Tell them the cycle and what you see on the screen.

Why do I have a Touchpoint, or goals for next year, but no evaluation?

Your evaluation, each Touchpoint period and the preparation of next year's goals and development plans each have their own list of people and their own dates. Being in one does not put you in the others. If one is missing, ask your administrator and say which one.

Why is the submit button greyed out?

Something is not complete yet. If you see the Evaluation tab, look for items under To submit your evaluation: that are not ticked. If you see Timeline, check the To do list for items that are not ready. The most common reasons:

  • A justification is missing. See the next question.

  • The final comment is required. You see Please, leave a note as it is required.

  • You have too few or too many goals or development plans for the next cycle. The item shows the minimum and maximum for your cycle.

  • In a 360 evaluation, you have not chosen your peers yet.

If every item is complete and you still cannot submit, ask your administrator. Tell them the cycle and which items show as complete.

Why am I asked for a justification?

Your company may ask for a written comment when you choose the highest score, and sometimes the lowest, for a goal or a skill. If the comment is too short, you see Your justification must have a minimum of <n> characters. Write a comment of at least that length. This is a rule of the cycle, so your manager cannot turn it off for you.

I submitted by mistake. Can I change my self-evaluation?

Not by yourself. Once you submit, your evaluation goes to your manager and is locked for you. Talk to your manager first. While your manager has not finished their part, your administrator can send the self-evaluation back to you. Tell them the cycle and what you need to change.

Why did my evaluation go to my previous manager?

If you changed team or manager during the cycle, your evaluation follows the change on its own only while your self-evaluation is still open. After you submit, it stays with your previous manager until your administrator updates it. Ask your administrator and tell them your current team and manager. What your previous manager already filled in is kept.

Why is one of my goals missing from my evaluation?

Your goals are added to the evaluation while your self-evaluation is open. A goal created after you submitted does not appear, and a team goal only appears if you are in that team. Check My Smart Goals in My Career first. If the goal is there but not in your evaluation, ask your manager. Do not create the goal again to make it appear.

When will I see my manager's evaluation?

It depends on your company. You may see it as soon as your manager submits it, only after your manager shares it with you, or only after HR releases the results for everyone. While your manager is still working on it, your evaluation shows Pending Manager evaluation. When you see Confirm evaluation, the result is ready for you. If the cycle has ended and you still see nothing, ask your manager.

Can I add more peers in a 360 evaluation?

Choose your peers with Invite peer before you click Start self evaluation. After that you cannot add more peers. If someone important was left out, tell your manager or your administrator.

What if the cycle closed before I submitted?

When you see Evaluation cycle closed, you can no longer submit or change anything. Your company decides whether a late evaluation can still be accepted. Talk to your manager or your administrator, and tell them the cycle and how much you had completed.
