Skills Mapping Dashboard: reading the Skill Coverage Heatmap
The Skills Mapping Dashboard shows, for each skill group, how many people are at each proficiency level. It only counts activity linked to skills from your Skills Catalogue.
Where do I find the dashboard?
Go to Skills Mapping > Dashboard. Skills Mapping is only available when the Tags feature is active for your organisation.
What feeds the heatmap?
The heatmap only uses activity that is linked to a skill from the Skills Catalogue, the skills taxonomy of your platform. A skill that is not linked to the catalogue can still be used in its own module, but it never appears here. The links are made in each module:
Learn: the Skill Tags of video blocks, PDF blocks and quiz questions. Finishing a tagged video, opening a tagged PDF or answering a tagged question counts for those skills.
Recognition: the Skill Tag of each soft skill and hard skill in Modules > Recognition. Endorsements on a tagged skill count for it.
Evaluation: the Skill Tags of each skill in Modules > Evaluation & Careers > Career Settings. The scores of finished evaluations count for those skills.
Manual: skill data added manually.
In a career skill, the Skill Tags field sits below the Job Category Skill Scales:

Can I add my own skills?
Yes. Go to Skills Mapping > Skills Catalogue, open a skill group and select Add Skill. Skills you add become part of your taxonomy and can then be linked in Learn, Recognition and Evaluation, exactly like the skills provided by GFoundry.
How do I read the heatmap?
Rows: one row per skill group, in alphabetical order. Under each name you see how many people have data in that group.
Columns: five proficiency levels. Level 1 – Basic (0% to 30%), Level 2 – Intermediate (31% to 55%), Level 3 – Proficient (56% to 75%), Level 4 – Advanced (76% to 90%) and Level 5 – Expert (91% to 100%).
Each cell: the number of people whose proficiency in that skill group falls in that level, and the percentage they represent of all the people on the dashboard. Hover a cell for the details.
Proficiency: GFoundry combines the signals of each person for the skills of the group, within the selected dates and categories, into a single percentage for that group.
Colours: the darker the green, the more people in that cell compared with the other cells. The colour shows how many people are there, not the level itself. The User Distribution Intensity bar below the table shows the range, from the emptiest to the fullest cell.
Totals: Total Skill Groups and Total Users at the bottom count what the current view includes.
How do I filter the view?
Set the dates in the date range at the top of the page. Only activity in that period is counted.
Select the filter button at the top right of the heatmap.
Choose Categories (Learn, Evaluation, Recognition or Manual), Skill Groups or Users.
Select Apply Filters.
Categories only lists the sources that have data in the selected period. If a source is missing, no linked activity from that module exists yet for those dates.
Why is a skill or a person missing from the heatmap?
The item is not linked to the Skills Catalogue. Check the Skill Tags of the Learn block or quiz question, of the Recognition skill or of the career skill.
There is no activity for it in the selected dates. Widen the date range.
A filter is hiding it. Clear the Categories, Skill Groups and Users filters.
For Evaluation, only finished evaluations count.
