Why are quiz questions repeated, or why does a quiz show fewer questions than it has?
In Classic mode, each play shows a fixed number of questions chosen by difficulty. Repeats happen when a difficulty does not have enough questions for what the level asks.
How many questions does each play show?
In Classic mode, each play is one level, and each level shows Questions Per Level questions. The user moves to the next level only after reaching Answers Required to Pass; otherwise they replay the same level. The mode ends after Number of Levels.
So a quiz with 80 questions and 10 questions per level shows 10 questions per play, not 80. A user who fails a level sees more questions in total, because they play that level again.
In Test mode, the number of questions is Questions per test, and difficulty is not used.
How is difficulty used?
Each question has a Question Difficulty Level: Easy, Medium or Hard. In Classic mode, each level asks for a mix of difficulties:
With 3 levels, level 1 uses only Easy questions, level 2 only Medium and level 3 only Hard.
With more levels, the first levels use mostly Easy questions and the mix moves gradually to Hard in the last levels.
Within each difficulty, questions are picked at random, preferring those the user has not answered yet.
Why are questions repeated?
When a level needs more questions of a difficulty than the quiz has, questions the user already saw are used again, sometimes even within the same play. For example, with 3 levels of 10 questions, you need at least 10 Easy, 10 Medium and 10 Hard questions; a quiz with 30 questions that are mostly Easy will repeat questions in levels 2 and 3.
How do I reduce repeats?
Balance the difficulties: give each difficulty at least as many questions as a level needs, and more if users replay levels.
Or use a single difficulty: if all questions have the same difficulty and the quiz has at least as many questions as a level shows, a question is not repeated within the same play. It can still appear again in a later level.
Adjust the settings: fewer questions per level, or fewer levels, need a smaller question bank.
