Creating and Managing Quiz Questions

Learn two ways to build your quiz: add questions one-by-one with rich media, or bulk upload them all at once using our Excel template.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The foundation of any good quiz is a strong set of questions. The GFoundry platform offers two flexible methods for creating and managing the questions in your quiz: adding them manually through the editor or uploading them in bulk with an Excel file.

This is all managed within the Quiz Questions tab of your quiz block.

Method 1: Adding Questions Manually

This method is ideal for creating highly customized questions, adding rich media, or making small additions and edits to an existing quiz.

  1. Navigate to the Quiz Questions tab inside your quiz.

  2. Click the Add Question + button to open the question editor.

  3. Write your question and define the answer options.

Question & Answer Formats

GFoundry allows for rich and engaging question formats:

  • Questions can contain: Plain text, images, sound clips, and even small animations using animated GIFs.

  • Answers are multiple-choice: You can provide 2, 3, or 4 text-based answer options. You must designate one of them as the correct answer.

Method 2: Bulk Importing with Excel

This is the fastest and most efficient way to create a large quiz. It allows you to prepare all your questions and answers offline in a single spreadsheet.

  1. Download the Template: First, download the official GFoundry sample file. Using the template is crucial to ensure the structure is correct for a successful import.

  2. Populate the File: Open the file and fill it in with your questions, answer options, and an indicator for the correct answer for each row.

  3. Save in the Correct Format: This is a critical step. You must save your completed file with the .XLS extension (Excel 97-2003 Workbook). The more modern .XLSX format will not work.

  4. Import the File:

    • Navigate back to the Quiz Questions tab.

    • Click the Import quiz button.

    • Select your saved .XLS file to upload.

The system will then automatically create all the questions from your file, instantly populating your quiz.

Whether you need to add a few highly visual questions or upload hundreds at once, these two methods give you the flexibility to build your quizzes efficiently.
