Training Program Sequential Completion

Learn how to require learners to complete training program items in order. This setting helps you control the learning path and limit access to the next item until the previous required item is finished.

What does Sequential Completion do?

Use Require Sequential Completion to control the order in which learners access the items inside a training program. When it is enabled, learners can only open the next item after they complete the previous required items.

This setting is available in the training program editor, under Settings & Notifications.

Where do I find it?

Open the training program you want to update, then go to Settings & Notifications and look for Content Completion Order. Turn on Require Sequential Completion to enforce the order.

This option appears in training programs, not in curricula. Curricula have a separate Sequential Completion setting under Configurations.

What happens when I enable it?

Learners must finish the current required item before they can move to the next one. This is useful when the content must be completed in a fixed sequence, for example when each item builds on the previous one.

If you leave it off, learners can access the training items in any order allowed by the program.

Do I need to set anything else first?

No extra setup is required for the setting itself. Just make sure your training program already has learning contents added, because the order only matters once there are items in the program.

If you want learners to follow a strict path, review the item order before you publish the training program.

  • Require Sequential Completion: Turns ordered access on or off for the training program.

  • Content Completion Order: The section where you control whether learners must complete items in order.
