Text & Media Block: Text, HTML and Embedded Content
Use the Text & Media Block to show rich text, images, video, custom HTML or embedded external content inside a Learn Content item, and learn when to embed material hosted outside GFoundry.
How do I add a Text & Media Block?
Go to Learn > Learn Content and open the content item.
Select the Content Management tab.
In the Text & Media Block row, click Add Content. The Add Text & Media Block window opens.
If your platform has more than one language, choose the language tab you want to edit.
Write the content in the Description editor. You can format text and add links, images, media and tables.
To paste HTML or an embed code (for example an iframe), use the editor's source code button and paste the code there. On the external service, use its Embed or Share option to copy the embed code. To embed a video from a link, you can also use the editor's media button.
Click Create and check the result in the Content Preview tab.
How do I edit the block later?
In the Content Management tab, open the Text & Media Block row (it shows Active). The Text & Media Block Details window opens. Make your changes and click Update.
Can I require learners to confirm they read the block?
If you see the Reading rules section in the block window, turn on Require employees to confirm they read this content. Learners then have to tick an acknowledgement checkbox for the read to count; without it, opening the content is enough. If the content has interactive blocks, learners must complete them correctly before they can tick the acknowledgement.
When should I embed external content?
Embed content when it lives outside GFoundry but should appear inside the learning page, for example a video, a slide deck, an interactive exercise or a map. Learners see it without leaving the content.
Embedding is done in the Text & Media Block, which sits alongside the other blocks of the content item, such as Presentation Content, PDF Content, Video Content, Quiz Content and Role Play. Tasks, Form and Discussion Board only appear when the corresponding feature is active on your platform.
Is this the same as External Content?
No. The Text & Media Block shows the material inside the Learn Content page. The External Content setting in the content details (only if you see it on your platform) turns the whole content item into a link that opens outside GFoundry.
What are the benefits of embedding external content?
Diversify learning materials with interactive and visual resources.
No file upload is needed for the embedded resource.
Changes made on the external service can be reflected in the embed, depending on the service.
What should I check before publishing?
Confirm that the external resource is accessible to your learners (for example, that it does not require a login they do not have) and that the service allows its content to be embedded in other sites. If the service blocks embedding, the content does not appear.
What if I cannot edit it?
If you do not see the Content Management tab or the block cannot be opened, check that your role allows you to edit this content and that the content is not archived. Archived content is not editable. While AI translations are being generated, editing is also paused until the generation finishes.
Which services commonly offer embed codes?
The services below are commonly used and offer embed or share codes. Whether a specific resource displays correctly depends on the embed code the service provides, on the service's own settings and on your organisation's security policies. Always check the result in the Content Preview.
