Training Program Due Date Rules Explained

Learn how to set a training program due date by fixed date or by number of days after the start date. This article also explains how recurrence affects reassignments.

Training Program Due Date Rules Explained

Choose how a training program's deadline is calculated: a fixed date, or a number of days after the assignment, the employee's hire date or the training start date.

Where do I set the due date for a training program?

Open the training program editor (Add Training Program, or Edit on a draft program) and go to Scheduling. There you set the Training Start Date and choose a Due Date Rule.

What are the available due date rules?

  • Fixed Date: a specific due date, the same for everyone. Best for compliance campaigns with a single deadline.

  • Days from Assignment: due a number of days after the user is assigned to the training. Best for rolling assignments.

  • Days from Hire: due a number of days after the employee's hire date. Best for onboarding. If a user has no hire date recorded, the days are counted from the assignment date.

  • Days from Effective Date: due a number of days after the training's effective date, which is the Training Start Date you set.

What should I enter when I use a fixed date?

Select Fixed Date and set the Due Date. It is required and must be after the start date. If it is not, you see Due date must be after the start date and need to adjust one of the two dates before saving.

What should I enter for the day-based rules?

Select Days from Assignment, Days from Hire or Days from Effective Date and enter the Number of Days. It is required and must be at least 1.

What happens if I change the start date later?

With Fixed Date, the due date still has to stay after the start date. With Days from Effective Date, the deadline moves with the new start date.

Review both fields before publishing so the training opens and closes when you expect it to. Once the program is published, the Edit action is no longer shown; use Unpublish to return it to draft if you need to change it.
