GFoundry quizzes transform standard assessments into engaging, interactive experiences. You can choose from four distinct game modes, each with its own set of rules and scoring logic.
For any given quiz, you can activate one or more of these modes in the quiz settings to offer variety to your learners.
Here’s how each mode works.
1. Classic Mode
This is a traditional quiz experience where users progress through a series of levels by demonstrating their knowledge.
The Goal: To pass each level by answering a minimum number of questions correctly.
Key Rules: The number of levels, the number of questions per level, and the number of correct answers needed to pass are all defined in the quiz settings.
Scoring: Points are awarded for each correct answer, often with bonuses for answering quickly and a point multiplier for successfully completing a level.
2. Genius Mode
This is a high-stakes "sudden death" style challenge where perfection is required to advance.
The Goal: To answer every single question in a level correctly.
Key Rules: If a user answers even one question incorrectly, they fail the level and must try again. This mode tests mastery of the subject.
Scoring: A fixed, often high, number of points are awarded for each genius level passed.
3. Ladder Mode
In this mode, users try to climb a "ladder" of questions as high as they can without making a mistake and falling.
The Goal: To answer as many consecutive questions as possible.
Key Rules: The ladder has "safety" milestones (at 25%, 50%, and 75%). If a user answers incorrectly, they fall back to the last safety milestone they passed. For example, if they fail on question 29 of a 100-question ladder, they return to question 25.
Scoring: Points are awarded for each "ladder step" conquered, with significant bonuses for reaching each of the safety milestones.
4. Battle Mode
This is a player-vs-player (PvP) mode where users challenge each other to see who knows more.
The Goal: To get a higher score than your opponent.
Key Rules: One player challenges another. The challenger completes the quiz first, and then the opponent is notified that it is their turn. The winner is the player with more correct answers. In case of a tie, the player who finished in the least amount of time wins.
Scoring: The winner gains a set number of points, and the loser has a set number of points subtracted from their total.
Important Considerations
Activating Modes: You can activate multiple modes (e.g., Classic and Genius) for the same quiz to give users different ways to engage with the content.
Course Completion: Remember that playing a quiz in Battle Mode does not count towards the official course completion rate.
By choosing the right game mode—or combination of modes—you can tailor the assessment experience to match your learning objectives, from simple knowledge checks to exciting competitions.
