How the Learn Module Feeds the Skills Taxonomy

See how user actions in the Learn module automatically update their skill profiles by associating content with skills from your taxonomy.

Updated over a week ago

The Learn module is a primary engine for building a rich, data-driven skills profile for every employee. This connection isn't manual; it's an automated process that translates learning activities into tangible, recognized skills. This article explains how that powerful link works.

Step 1: Associating Skills with Your Content

The foundation of the process is connecting your training materials to your company's Skills Taxonomy. As an administrator, you can associate one or more skills with nearly any piece of content at a very granular level.

You can tag skills to:

  • An entire "Learn Content" course.

  • An individual Slide within a presentation.

  • A specific Video.

  • A PDF document.

  • Even a single Question within a quiz.

This precision allows you to define exactly what competency is being taught or assessed at any given moment in the learning experience.

Step 2: Acquiring Skills Through Meaningful Interaction

A user doesn't acquire a skill just by clicking on content. The system requires meaningful interaction to validate that the knowledge has been absorbed. When a user meets these defined criteria, the GFoundry platform automatically attributes the associated skill(s) to that employee's personal profile.

Examples of these criteria include:

  • Watching a video to the end.

  • Answering a quiz question correctly.

  • Spending a minimum required time viewing a slide.

The Bigger Picture: A 360-Degree View of Skills

While the Learn module is a powerful source of data, it is only one piece of the puzzle. The GFoundry Skills Taxonomy creates a complete, holistic profile of each employee by automatically collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources across the platform.

The three main sources are:

  1. The Learn Module: Based on the courses finished, videos watched, quizzes passed, and documents opened.

  2. The Recognition Module: Based on peer-to-peer feedback and recognition that is tied to specific skills or company values.

  3. The Performance & Careers Module: Based on formal competency assessments and defined personal development goals.

By feeding data from the Learn module and other key areas into the central Skills Taxonomy, GFoundry moves beyond simply tracking course completions.

It builds a living, breathing profile of your organization's capabilities, enabling smarter talent decisions and truly personalized employee development.
