Creating and Managing a Course

Learn the lifecycle of a course. This guide covers how to create a new course, edit its details, and manage its publication status.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

In GFoundry, every course, training module, or learning experience you build is contained within a "Learn Content" item. This acts as the main container for your materials. This guide will walk you through the high-level management of a course, from its initial creation to controlling its visibility for learners.

How to Create a Course

Creating a new course container is the first step in the process.

  1. From the backoffice menu, navigate to Learn > Learn Content. You will see a list of all existing courses.

  2. Click the Add Content button and choose "Add Content Manually".

  3. After you fill the first form with some core details you will be directed to the "Learn Content Details" page for your new, empty course, where you can continue your configuration.

Editing Core Details

On the "Learn Content Details" page, you will find a panel on the left where you can manage the core information for your course.

Click the Edit button in this panel to modify the following:

  • Thumbnail: Upload a cover image that will represent your course in the catalog.

  • Name: The official title of the course that users will see.

  • Description: A summary of the course content, its learning objectives, and what users can expect.

  • Category: Assign the course to a pre-existing category to ensure your training library remains organized and easy for users to navigate.

Controlling Course Visibility and Status

At the top of the "Learn Content Details" page is an action bar that allows you to manage the status and visibility of your course once it has been built and approved.

  • Publish / Unpublish: This is the main toggle to control visibility. Publish makes the course live and accessible to its target audience in the training catalog. Unpublish removes it from the catalog, making it inaccessible.

  • Unlist: An unlisted course is still active but will not appear in the main training catalog or in search results. It can only be accessed with a direct link. This is useful for testing or providing exclusive access to a specific group without cluttering the main library.

  • Preview & Share: See the course exactly as a learner would and get a shareable link.

  • Reports: A direct link to view the analytics, user progress, and completion data for this specific course.
